My Accountant Buddy

Working as a software engineer at Voly — a UK fintech company — I regularly encountered financial terminology and calculations that fell outside my engineering background.

Rather than relying on quick lookups or AI assistants for short-term answers, I built this application to deepen my own understanding by pairing an unfamiliar domain (finance) with one I'm fluent in (software development).

The result is a personal finance web app that turns abstract formulas into interactive, visual tools — making each concept easier to internalise through hands-on exploration, such as:

• How to calculate compounding returns from an interest rate.
• Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), was something that never quite clicked at first — especially the idea of translating future value into present value. Exploring it interactively helps answer the underlying question: why does the timing of money matter so much?
